🧼 Care & Maintenance
How do I clean and maintain PVC windows and doors?
Keeping your windows and doors in top condition is simple and helps extend their lifespan.
Routine Cleaning:
- Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soapy water to clean the uPVC frames and glass.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or solvent-based products, as these can damage the surface.
- For stubborn marks, a non-abrasive cream cleaner designed for uPVC may be used sparingly.
Hardware Maintenance:
- Lubricate hinges, locks, and handles once a year using a light machine oil or silicone spray.
- Check for any loose screws or fittings and tighten them as needed.
Drainage Channels:
- Ensure that drainage holes at the bottom of the window frames are clear of debris to prevent water build-up.
What should I do if a window or door becomes stiff or misaligned?
Stiffness or misalignment can occur due to seasonal changes, wear, or debris buildup.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Inspect the hinges and tracks for dirt, grit, or obstructions.
- Clean and lubricate moving parts with a silicone spray.
- Check alignment by gently opening and closing the window or door. If it catches or doesn’t seal properly, it may need adjustment.
- Adjust hinges or locking points if necessary—many modern uPVC units allow for minor adjustments using a screwdriver.

📏 Measuring Your Windows and Doors
How do I measure my windows and doors correctly?
Getting accurate measurements is essential to ensure your new windows and doors fit perfectly. Here’s a quick guide to help:
- Always use millimetres (mm) – Metric measurements are more precise and avoid conversion errors.
- Measure from the outside – Take measurements of the brickwork opening, not the old frame.
- Height: From the bottom of the opening (under any removable cill) to the top.
- Width: Brick to brick across the opening.
- Measure in three places – Openings may not be square. Measure top, middle, and bottom for height; left, centre, and right for width. Use the smallest measurement.
- Deduct 10mm – Subtract 10mm from both height and width to allow for fitting tolerance. This helps the installer position the frame correctly.
- Don’t measure the old frame – It may be warped or incorrect. Always measure the brickwork opening.
- Double-check your measurements – We can’t accept responsibility for incorrect sizes, and custom-made products are non-refundable.
- Cill included – If you require a cill, it’s included in the overall height you enter.
- Transoms – Transom Drops are measured from the top of the frame to the centre of the horizontal transom
- Mullions – Mullion dimensions are measured from the edge of the frame to the centre of the vertical mullion
- Midrails – Midrails are measured from the bottom of the frame to the centre of the Horizontal Midrail
